In Portland, Oregon, at WordCamp US 2024, I had the pleasure of presenting not just once, but twice. The energy at WordCamp was amazing—everyone was so friendly, and the exchange of ideas was inspiring. I received positive feedback from both of my talks, which covered different aspects of how WordPress can power large-scale, content-driven sites.
My first talk, The News Never Sleeps: How WordPress Powers The New York Post (watch video on YouTube), highlighted the power and flexibility of the WordPress block editor when tailored for an organization that produces content around the clock.
On the second day, I presented a more technical talk, From Bottlenecks to Breakthroughs: How the New York Post Mastered Scalability (video, slides). This session dove deep into the architecture and scaling strategies we’ve implemented to ensure WordPress sites can handle massive traffic surges. For any site that anticipates high traffic—whether from breaking news, viral content, or unexpected spikes—WordPress can be fine-tuned to deliver both speed and stability. I shared how we’ve integrated Elasticsearch, optimized query performance, improved caching strategies, and built a resilient architecture that can scale with demand.
